Is your proposal really viable?

We use the lenses of Desirability, Viability, and Feasibility (DVF) to make our strategy, operating model, service design good – even exciting!

It needs to be all three of these things or it won’t work.

Traditionally viability has been all about the finance: will we make enough money out of this thing, or can we bear the cost of this thing?

Viability now has a more complete definition: it must be financially, environmentally (I see you, carbon and waste), and socially (stakeholder value) viable.

Does your new project/investment assessment process incentivise low carbon, low waste, community/supplier/staff-focused solutions? Or just profitable and cost-effective ones?

If you optimise your proposal for desirability, feasibility, and this wider definition of viability, you will get more acceptance, faster progress, and also make the world better. Now that’s interesting.

Best,
—D.
